Course Description
Course information provided by the Courses of Study 2023-2024.
The objective of this study trip is to expose students to the variety and scale of food production in the Central Valley of California. Students participating in this course will engage, through tours and conversations, agricultural businesses involved in cotton, tomato, almond, pistachio, citrus, beef, dairy and cheese production. In addition, there will be working dinners and lunches where students will meet and interact with CALS alumni and other industry leaders and professionals in the region.
When Offered Multi-semester course: Winter.
Fees Course fee: $1600 (2024). Cost will vary year to year.
Permission Note Enrollment preference given to: Animal Science and Agriculture Science students with interest in dairy.

Comments Students must enroll in ANSC 1250 (winter), and 1251 (spring) to receive a final grade.
Outcomes- Critically evaluate the scale of agriculture and food production in the Central Valley of California.
- Compare the scale of agriculture and food production you are familiar with compared to what you observe and articulate the potential benefits and pitfalls of both systems.
- Determine and critique the human resources and capital costs required to allow this region to produce the quantity of food grown in this region compared to what you are familiar with.
- Assess the use of natural resources, how they are managed and who should have rights to them.
