Topic - Qualitative Methods in Fashion and Beauty ------------------------- In this graduate seminar, students will explore the complex intersections of fashion, beauty, and power from a global perspective and interdisciplinary lens. Drawing from a diverse range of texts, including scholarly monographs, theoretical essays, literary works, and cultural analyses, we will examine how appearance norms and ideals are constructed, negotiated, and contested across various contexts. Students will also develop qualitative research skills based on their interests and research topics. By integrating theoretical analysis with practical research methodologies and skills development, this seminar provides an understanding of current issues in the fashion and beauty industries as well as the tools necessary to conduct rigorous and insightful research in the fields of dress, beauty, and fashion studies.
