Course Description
Course information provided by the 2024-2025 Catalog. Courses of Study 2024-2025 is scheduled to publish mid-June.
Learn the basics to get you started with sea kayaking out on the lake. This course covers information about equipment, loading, launching & landing your kayak, exiting and re-entering your kayak in open water, and basic paddling stroke technique. Practice skills in the pool, spend a day paddling out on the lake and participate in a weekend camping trip where you paddle out to a primitive campsite carrying all of you gear in your kayak.
Prerequisites/Corequisites Prerequisite: recreational swimmer.
Fees Course fee: $445 for instruction/travel. Course fee includes some paddling equipment, and camping gear can be rented as a discounted price from Cornell Outdoor Education. Satisfies Requirement Satisfies one PE requirement if taken as PE. First class is required, students must attend all classes to receive PE credit.

Instruction Mode: In Person
Course fee: $445. Prerequisite: recreational swimmer. The first class meeting will be held on campus at the Helen Newman Pool. Other classes will first meet at Bartels Hall and then travel to other areas around Ithaca, NY. The last class will meet at Bartels Hall and then head to the Adirondacks for the weekend (5/5 - 5/7). Transportation is provided to classes off campus.
Drop Deadline: Tuesday, January 21, 2025. Students will be responsible for the course fee and assessed a $50 late drop fee if they do not drop by the deadline.
