Course Description

Explores the place of humans in the biological world, origins of ethics and morality, speciesism, the use of animals for research and agricultural purposes, and transgenic animals.

- Describe the main philosophical frameworks used in animal ethics and compare and contrast the may factors that influence decisions about animal use and reflect on your own ethical judgements.
- Recognize an ethical issue (as opposed to opinion, fact, emotion, etc.).
- Understand your stance on production animal ethical issues and how to present your argument.
- Demonstrate appropriate written and oral communication skills and your ability to work effectively as part of a team.
