Course Description

We live in an age of data abundance. Vast amounts of data are being collected and analyzed to inform decision-making. Introductory knowledge of SQL database systems is a requirement for most business management roles. The objectives of this course are firstly, to build from scratch your ability to write SQL code in order to retrieve, clean, and organize datasets stored in databases, and secondly, to expose you to different kinds of business datasets and potential uses. In other words, this is a unique SQL course targeted at business students. Students with a good programming background should not take this course.

Instruction Mode: In Person
Enrollment limited to: Johnson MBA and Graduate Students Only This course teaches the basic skills for acquisition, management, and visualization of large datasets. Students will learn how to collect datasets from the web; use SQL to store, manage, and query databases. Add/Drop Dates: January 17th at 9:00am to January 30th at 11:59pm. You may add or drop a first-half class after January 30th with permission of the faculty AND a late fee of $100.00 will be charged for each add or drop transaction. If you are dropping after February 20th at 11:59pm you will also receive a "W" on your transcript in addition to the late fees. Non-Johnson students may add themselves to the waitlists during their enrollment periods, however Johnson Students have priority into the classes and non-Johnsons will be enrolled: 1) IF seats are still available after Johnson students complete their enrollment period and 2) IF the instructor allows. This course is a Management Science Elective.
