Course Description

Human Behavior and mental processes including the nervous system, consciousness, learning, memory, development, emotion, psychopathology, interpersonal process, society, and culture, bridging historical perspectives with current research.

Forbidden Overlaps Forbidden Overlap: due to an overlap in content, students will not receive credit for both HD 1120 and PSYCH 1101.

• Describe foundational psychological concepts and themes, along with the studies, findings, and scientists associated with these concepts and themes.
• Identify and compare major theoretical perspectives on complex psychological phenomena.
• Recognize and appreciate the psychological dimension of everyday experiences, as well as important social problems (e.g., education, healthcare).
• Recognize a variety of methods, both correlational and experimental, that are used to answer psychological questions, and critically evaluate their strengths and limitations.
• Understand the basic components of an empirical research article and know how to locate articles on topics of interest. Generate original research questions and define methods for addressing those questions. Communicate more clearly orally and in writing.
