Leading Agile Innovation

Course information provided by the Courses of Study 2018-2019.

In this course students will work on improving their innovation skills. We will discuss those behaviors linked to innovation and creativity and students will work on developing these skills in a 3 day innovation event (hackathon) where students will identify an unmet need and develop a solution to the opportunity build a prototype and business model around this solution and pitch this solution to a panel of investors. Students will gain a broader perspective of both the challenges (i.e. organizational and institutional) in an increasingly digital economy) and opportunities (i.e. unmet customer needs and possibilities for future ventures) in this economy. Students will formulate teams to generate solutions to real-world problems. Students will learn and apply team innovation principles, business model innovation, design thinking, and product development, the class will also cover the psychology of creativity, product pitches, and the basic principles of leading innovation in a team including team demography and team processes that drive innovation. Students will then practice these skills.

  • Class will meet at 'eHub' in Collegetown on Friday, January 25th, Saturday, January 26th and Sunday, January 27th. All other dates will be in Sage Hall. *Attendance at all Sessions is required* Add/Drop dates: Johnson Students – January 15th at 8:00am through February 5th at 4:00pm or prior to first class if class is held before these dates. Students may attend first class, but must drop BEFORE the 2nd class meeting to avoid penalties. Send email to gm-registrar@cornell.edu before the 2nd meeting date to request the drop. There is a late fee of $100.00 for each add or drop transaction after the 2nd class meeting date. You will also receive a "W" on your transcript in addition to the late fees after the 2nd class meeting date. Non-Johnson students may add themselves to the waitlists during the enrollment periods, however Johnson Students have priority into the classes and non-Johnsons will be enrolled: 1) IF seats are still available after Johnson students complete their enrollment period and 2) IF the instructor allows.
