Course Description
Course information provided by the Courses of Study 2017-2018.
Explore contemporary issues, problems, and controversies in global health through an interdisciplinary perspective. Introduces the global burden of disease and then examines complex social, economic, political, environmental, and biological factors that structure the origins, consequences, and possible treatments of global health problems. A limited number of problems are explored in depth (e.g., HIV, maternal mortality, malaria).

Permission Note Enrollment limited to: sophomores, but some freshmen may also enroll after sophomore enrollment is set. Juniors sign up on a wait list only basis. Seniors by instructor permission only.
Distribution Category (D-AG, CA-HE, D-HE)
- Analyze global health problems, issues and controversies from multiple disciplinary perspectives.
- Express basic knowledge about global health current events, world geography, demographics, poverty, and health disparities.
- Work in teams to evaluate a global health intervention using tools of program theory and to create an effective oral presentation.

Enrollment is limited. COURSE IS OPEN ENROLL FOR SOPHOMORES ONLY. Freshmen may be permitted to enroll if space allows. Juniors completing the Global Health Minor should request placement on the course wait list. Seniors are not permitted to enroll. Non-Sophomores, please contact Terry Mingle (tpm2) for placement on the wait list. For general course inquiries, please contact the primary course instructor, Jeanne Moseley.
