Course Description
Course information provided by the Courses of Study 2017-2018.
Designed to develop skills for analyzing, formulating and implementing business strategies. This course builds on the concepts learned in the core strategy course, NCC 5090. Several frameworks and tools for analyzing strategic issues and formulating and implementing business strategy will be covered, with emphasis on understanding the "big picture" – i.e. the major strategic issues facing a company. Each of these will be illustrated using life examples and case studies.

Permission Note Enrollment limited to: Johnson students only.
Outcomes
- Developing skills and a disciplined process for analyzing strategic programs, including business boundary definition, industry analysis, competitive analysis, and business model and capability assessment.
- Developing skills to formulate and evaluate business strategies, including setting vision and goals informed by strategic foundation, making choices and trade-offs on "where to play" and "how to win" and detailing strategic imperatives, required capabilities, and business model.
- Developing skills to design and executive implementation plans, including repeatable models for implementation, organization alignment with strategy, and change management.
- Overall, providing opportunities to practice using a strategic process and various analytical tools through assigned cases and classroom discussion.

*Johnson Students Only* **ATTENDANCE IS REQUIRED AT ALL SESSIONS** Add/Drop dates: Johnson Students – January 16th at 8:00am through February 7th at 4:00pm or prior to first class if class is held before these dates. Students may attend first class, but must drop BEFORE the 2nd class meeting to avoid penalties. Send email to gm-registrar@cornell.edu before the 2nd meeting date to request the drop. There is a late fee of $100.00 for each add or drop transaction after the 2nd class meeting date. You will also receive a "W" on your transcript in addition to the late fees after the 2nd class meeting date. Non-Johnson students may add themselves to the waitlists during the enrollment periods, however Johnson Students have priority into the classes and non-Johnsons will be enrolled: 1) IF seats are still available after Johnson students complete their enrollment period and 2) IF the instructor allows.
