This course provides an overview of land use planning concepts, frameworks, institutions, movements, and methods. Students gain an understanding of land use planning at multiple scales, from statewide frameworks to local and regional plans to small area plans. The course covers comprehensive planning methods and urban systems. It is intended to provide familiarity and proficiency with a wide range of concepts and hands-on experience in applying geographic information systems (GIS) and decision support tools to land use planning processes.
