Course Description
Course information provided by the Courses of Study 2016-2017.
This course will explore the principles and current state of the field known as translational research. In short, translational research is concerned with the application of research-based knowledge or evidence to the development and dissemination of programs, practices, and policies. This course is particularly focused on social and health-related programs and policies.
When Offered Spring.
Prerequisites/Corequisites Recommended prerequisite: introductory statistics and research methods.
Outcomes
- Learn how to translate ideas effectively across disciplinary contexts.
- Learn concepts and methods to translate research knowledge into practice, programs, or policy.
- Learn to think critically about the research and policy literatures.
- Achieve quantitative literacy with regard to various methodologies related to research utilization and the evaluation and dissemination of programs.
- Learn writing and communciation skills.
- Further develop interpersonal skills related to class participation and team projects.
- Develop increased sensitivity to issues related to the conduct of research in diverse community-based settings.
