Course Description
Course information provided by the Courses of Study 2016-2017.
Why does Rabelais remain in such disrepute? Using Mikhail Bakhtin and Julia Kristeva as our guides, we will examine the embodied nature of his work both as a refusal of religious interpretation of earthly events and as a critique of rationalism. We will explore how his materialist and skeptical approaches to knowledge resonate with aspects of contemporary culture.
