Course Description
Course information provided by the Courses of Study 2014-2015.
This seminar/workshop class is designed to prepare students who will participate in a global educational experience either in New York, Washington or abroad. Students will develop a self-directed project and design an e-portfolio to structure their upcoming experience. The Course will center around the idea of global citizenship which promotes engagement, experiential learning, reflection and develops intercultural competence. The aim of the course is to reduce the participant's global footprint.
When Offered Spring.
Outcomes
- Explain global citizenship and identify what type of citizen they are.
- Explain what reflection is and why reflection is important in learning.
- Apply methods of reflection (oral and written), especially related to cultural diversity, personal goal-setting, and team work.
- Construct an e-portfolio. Develop their personal project either service or self directed.
- Connect their study abroad experience to the rest of the student's education and life.
- Describe important country and regional-specific factors relating to geography, culture, history, politics and discipline specific system of the country to which they will travel.
- Identify the major locale-specific health and safety risks that they might encounter living abroad.
- Demonstrate behavior in class that is culturally appropriate in the country to which they will travel.
- Interact with and build rapport with students form their respective country groups.
- Express simple greetings and phrases in country-specific language.
