Research in Emotion, Cognition, & Brain

This course is designed to expose students to multiple aspects of human brain research in the context of emotional and social aspects of cognition. To gain experience in empirical research and how it fits into the broader field students will attend a weekly lab meeting, read relevant research articles, and participate in 8 hours a week of research activities outside of class.

Prerequisites/Corequisites Recommended prerequisites: HD 2200 Human Brain & Mind, HD 3660 Affective & Social Neuroscience.

Outcomes
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the principles of how human brain activity results in emotions and their influence on cognition and behavior.
  • Apply and integrate knowledge from neuroscience and psychology to design and execute an empirical research study.
  • Develop skills to be able to synthesize discussions of assigned reading material in both written and oral form.
  • Create a proposed research project of their design.
