Course Description
Course information provided by the Courses of Study 2014-2015.
Studies the slavery of Ancient Greece and Rome. While the course will primarily focus on the slave society of Rome, we will begin the course examining Greek ideas of slavery such as in Aristotle's Politics before moving onto Rome in order to understand the nuances of slave societies. The final weeks of the class will be spent discussing the classical underpinnings of slavery in the American South. This course will read legal, philosophical, and literary treatments of slavery.
