This course provides an introduction to meter and rhyme and to the study of meter and rhyme Verse readings will be short poems written in English, with a particular focus on Shakespeare?s sonnets and the poems of Housman and Dickinson. Critical texts will include writings about prosody from the nineteenth through the twenty-first centuries. Non-Anglophone verse systems, particularly Russian, will be considered for a comparative perspective. (ENGL-PRE)
