Course Description

On this course, students will explore creativity within essayistic form, considering its origins with Montaigne, exploring essays with expository roots, including texts by Virginia Woolf, Henry David Thoreau and James Baldwin alongside lyric essay and poetics forms from writers such as Jorge Borges, Ishion Hutchinson and Bhanu Kapil. Student writers will produce a portfolio of essays and a brief poetics of their developing essayistic style.
