Laboratory in Visual Anthropology

This lab introduces students to the collaborative, intellectual, and practical operations of a Visual Anthropology Lab. Students gain practical experience working as part of a team to support ongoing research, programming, and production while developing collective projects. The course emphasizes hands-on participation in lab maintenance, scheduling, event planning, and research development. Activities include recent issues of Visual Anthropology Review, audiovisual analysis, and works-in-progress critiques. Students build professional skills by interviewing visual anthropologists for publication, writing book, film, or exhibition reviews, and proposing public programs. Designed for graduate students and advanced undergraduates engaged in independent research.
