Do you ride a bicycle around campus but have concerns about safety on the roads? Bike Commuting Basics is everything you need to know to develop the skills to be a smarter, safer, more confident bike rider. This course uses the League of American Bicyclists (LAB) curriculum and upon completion, you have the opportunity to earn a Smart Cycling Certificate from the LAB.


Fees Course fee: $325 for instruction/food. $60 bike rental (if needed).

Satisfies Requirement Satisfies one PE requirement if taken as PE.

Comments You must already know how to ride a bicycle.  We will be riding on streets with cars/buses and practicing evasive maneuvers, signaling, communication skills and other essentials for commuting around town. For more information about this course, please visit the Cornell Outdoor Education website.

  • Instruction Mode: In Person

    Course fee: $235. No experience required; only pre-requisite is the desire to learn to ride a bike. Transportation will be provided if needed.
    Drop Deadline: August 26, 2025. Students will be responsible for the course fee and assessed a $50 late drop fee if they do not drop by the deadline.
