Outdoor Anchor Building

Course information provided by the Courses of Study 2024-2025. Courses of Study 2024-2025 is scheduled to publish mid-June.

Come learn how to build climbing anchors for your outdoor adventures! In this course you will learn anchor building best practices, get hands on use with different types of anchor building material including appropriate knots and general care, learn how to place various types of traditional protection, route finding and base management, and how to keep yourself safe while working at the edge of a cliff. We will cover trip logistics and anchor building basics in two classroom sessions and go leave campus for a weekend of building anchors, climbing, and camping!This is your opportunity to build self sufficiency and take your climbing to real rock.

When Offered Fall.

Fees Course fee: $395 for instruction/travel and food. Includes all climbing equipment and group camping gear (tents, stoves, etc.). If you don't have your own, personal camping gear (sleeping bag, headlamp, etc.) is available for rent at a 25% discount.
Prerequisites/Corequisites Prerequisite: basic Rock Climbing or equivalent experience, Top rope belay certification minimum.

Satisfies Requirement Satisfies one PE requirement if taken as PE. First class is required, students must attend all classes to receive PE credit.

    Drop Deadline: Wednesday, September 4, 2024. Students will be responsible for the course fee and assessed a $50 late drop fee if they do not drop by the deadline.
