PE 1651
Course Description
Course information provided by the Courses of Study 2024-2025. Courses of Study 2024-2025 is scheduled to publish mid-June.
Learn basic rock climbing skills on real rock! We'll spend a glorious weekend climbing, tent camping, and relaxing at Minnewaska State Park in the foothills of the Catskill Mountains. We will cover climbing equipment and technique, knots, belaying, rappelling, and natural history.
When Offered Fall, Spring.
Fees Course fee: $395 for instruction/travel and food. Includes all climbing equipment and group camping gear (tents, stoves, etc.). If you don't have your own, personal camping gear (sleeping bag, headlamp, etc.) is available for rent at a 25% discount.
Prerequisites/Corequisites No prior experience necessary.
Satisfies Requirement Satisfies one PE requirement if taken as PE. First class is required, students must attend all classes to receive PE credit.

The first class will meet on campus in Bartels Hall, room B01 then head up to the Lindseth Climbing Center, also in Bartels Hall. The second class will meet at the Lindseth Climbing Center. Transportation is provided for classes off campus.
Drop Deadline: Wednesday, September 4, 2024. Students will be responsible for the course fee and assessed a $50 late drop fee if they do not drop by the deadline. There is a weekend trip that goes to Minnewaska State Park in the heart of the Catskill Mountains 9/13/2024-9/15/2024. The trip will leave from Bartels Hall at 5:00pm Friday.
