Course Description
Course information provided by the Courses of Study 2023-2024. Courses of Study 2023-2024 is scheduled to publish mid-June.
This course will introduce students to a wide range of nanomaterial synthesis methods, current nanotechnologies and their applications, and nanocharacterization techniques. Students will learn both bottom-up and top-down approaches to synthesize nanomaterials confined in zero-dimension (0D), 1D, and 2D. Several nanocharacterization techniques and tools such as atomic force microscopy, secondary electron imaging in scanning electron microscopy, aberration factors in transmission electron microscopy, composition analysis in X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy will be covered. Various device and energy applications where nanoscale effects are at play will be highlighted, including principles of field effect transistors, lithium-ion batteries, and hydrogen evolution reaction.
