Course Description
Course information provided by the Courses of Study 2023-2024. Courses of Study 2023-2024 is scheduled to publish mid-June.
Introduction to the design of systems programs, with emphasis on multiprogrammed operating systems. Topics include concurrency, synchronization, deadlocks, memory management, protection, input-output methods, networking, file systems and security. The impact of network and distributed computing environments on operating systems is also discussed.
When Offered Fall, Spring.
Prerequisites/Corequisites Prerequisite: CS 3410 or CS 3420.

Instruction Mode: In Person
Direct enrollment is restricted to CS PhD, MS and MEng students. Seniors taking courses for M.Eng credit and all other graduate and professional students must add themselves to the waitlist during add/drop. Undergraduates who are not taking M.Eng credit will not be permitted and must enroll/waitlist for the 4xxx version.
