Course Description
Course information provided by the Courses of Study 2022-2023. Courses of Study 2022-2023 is scheduled to publish mid-June.
In this course we will provide: (1) an introduction to how biological contexts--e.g., development, plant pathology, phenotyping, eco-physiology, and crop management--define opportunities and challenges for measurement and sensing technologies; (2) a technical understanding of state-of-the-art methods, with respect to both instrumentation and data analysis; (3) an introduction to emerging capabilities in areas such as nanotechnology, molecular biology, and remote sensing and their relevance to measurements in plant systems; and (4) a student-driven, instructor-guided experience in cross-disciplinary technology design, aimed at new targets for sensing and measurement in digital plant science.
When Offered Fall.
Permission Note Enrollment limited to: graduate students. Undergraduates must obtain permission of instructor.
Comments This module can be taken independently of PLSCI 7201 and PLSCI 7202.
Outcomes- Evaluate the advantages and limitations of sensors and measurement techniques.
- Conceptually design novel sensors and measurement strategies based upon the case studies discussed in the course.
- Collaborate across engineering, computer science, and plant science disciplines.
