What does it mean to work? What is work, and what are its politics? These are questions that are attuned to both classic issues in political economy and the most recent debates that surround work and its future (including academic labor). Moving from CAFOs, to oil rigs, to office buildings, to dumps, and beyond, we will seek to unpack work and its classed, gendered, and racialized politics. Importantly, we will also pay particular attention the hows of work, as well as to the hows of studying work anthropologically. Work takes myriad forms, and we must design our projects to account for the rhythms of work and the inequalities and exclusions engendered within the labor process and the broader political and economic logics that animate it.
