Course Description
Course information provided by the Courses of Study 2022-2023. Courses of Study 2022-2023 is scheduled to publish mid-June.
Provides the basics of equine form, function, care, management, and handling. Students learn the basic biology of the horse and how to apply this knowledge to solve problems in horse care. Hands-on labs include safe handling techniques, basic groundwork, applied anatomy, and more. Short trips and tours illustrate applied concepts in horse industry and health care.

Prerequisites/Corequisites Prerequisite: BIOAP 1100 or permission of instructor.
Distribution Category (OPHLS-AG)
- Students will be able to explain the basics of horse husbandry and use this information to formulate equine management decisions.
- Students will be able to apply their knowledge of equine anatomy and physiology to management practices and equine health and disease.
- Students will be able to gather and critically evaluate information to: understand and make decisions regarding horse care; present this information and make recommendations to peers and a lay audience.
- Students will be able to demonstrate comfort and skill while handling and working with horses.
Regular Academic Session. Choose one lecture and one laboratory.
