Course Description
Course information provided by the Courses of Study 2017-2018.
This class is meant for those that want to start studying Karate or have not studied in awhile. Students learn about traditional Okinawan Karate (Shito Ryu) by practicing self-defense combinations that involve blocks, strikes, kicks, joint locks and throws. Along the way we will work on stances, body positioning/mechanics and conditioning. There is strong emphasis on partner work as a mechanism to practice what is being taught in a safe and controlled environment. Free sparring and competition are not part of this class. The last day of class students are encouraged to participate in that semester's belt test. Passing this test sets you up to continue studying with the next class, should you decide to continue your studies of Karate.
