Course Description
Course information provided by the Courses of Study 2017-2018.
Case-based approach to disease and health maintenance, with an emphasis on integrating the student's knowledge of anatomy, physiology, metabolism, pharmacology, and nutrition in order to solve clinical problems. Classes consist of combined lectures and labs, with media-based exercises. Evaluation based on attendance, participation in discussions, quizzes, case study assignments, and a comprehensive final.

Outcomes
- Orthopaedic module – Develop basic skills in the use of arthroscopic and open surgery procedures in joint repair and evaluation.
- Orthopaedic module – Understand the relationship between joint structures and function to overall biomechanics.
- Orthopaedic module – Develop basic skills in conducting a knee, shoulder and elbow physical examination.
- Orthopaedic module – Understand risk factors for, preventative/treatment measures for and pathophysiology of concussions.
- Integrative Health module – Understand the relationship between bone repair and remodeling in facilitating recovery from injury, surgery and in bone maintenance.
- Integrative Health module – Understand the role of nutrition in bone health, disease and repair.
- Integrative Health module – Develop effective oral and written communication skills that will enable you to be persuasive by employing logic, scientific evidence, and compassion.
