CHEM 6090
Course Description
Course information provided by the Courses of Study 2015-2016.
The main goal of CHEM 6090 is to provide a solid background in the science of nanoscale materials, a research field that has been extremely active for more than twenty years. Simplified versions of quantum mechanics, band theory, themodynamics, and surface science will be discussed. We will also learn about the structures and properties of well-known nanoscale materials, including nanocrystals, nanowires, carbon nanotubes, and graphene. Minimum level of previous exposure to quantum mechanics or mathematical skills will be assumed, even though the majority of students took undergraduate level quantum mechanics and/or thermodynamics before. The intended audience is first year graduate students and upper level undergraduate students in Chemistry and other fields, including A&EP and Materials/Chemical/Electrical/Mechanical Engineering.
When Offered Fall.
Permission Note The course is open to undergraduates who have taken the prerequisite courses or equivalents.
Prerequisites/Corequisites Prerequisite: CHEM 3890/CHEM 3900 or equivalent.
