This 8-day, 80-hour course from Wilderness Medical Associates provides the prerequisite training and certification necessary for employment as a professional outdoor instructor at nationally recognized programs such as NOLS and Outward Bound. The curriculum goes beyond the basics needed for first aid certification to emphasize the skills and knowledge needed in backcountry rescue situations when extended care may be needed.

    This is part two of a multi-semester course. Part one (course fee: $855) is held in November 2024 -- part two (course fee: $0) runs from January 13-20, 2025 from 8:00am - 6:00pm. You must attend part one in November in order to take part two in January: students are responsible for enrolling in the winter class (part 2). Students enrolled in this course who are living on-campus will need to find off-campus accommodations until the residential halls open. Participation in all class sessions in the fall and winter semesters is required to receive the 1 PE credit.
